Cops Chase Helicopter From Crown Heights To NJ: NYPD, Reports

CROWN HEIGHTS, BROOKLYN — Neighbors in Crown Heights might have noticed a particularly noisy police chase on Thursday — in the air.

A helicopter flying over Brooklyn was chased all the way to a New Jersey airport after making a stop at a vacant lot near Troy Avenue and Carroll Street, according to police and reports.

The helicopter was seen flying low and landing near the intersection around 12:30 p.m., prompting someone to call 911, according to the NYPD.

Witnesses told the New York Post the aircraft took off and landed twice before flying away from the neighborhood, followed by an NYPD Aviation Unit.

The police helicopter chased the chopper all the way to Lakewood Township Municipal Airport, where police approached the pilot, according to reports.

The NYPD were able to identify the pilot and the aircraft and notified the Federal Aviation Administration, a spokesperson told Patch.

The FAA told Patch they are "aware of the operation and is looking into the matter" when asked for more details.
