CROWN HEIGHTS, BROOKLYN — Police shot and killed a man roaming Crown Heights with a knife early Monday morning after he charged at officers, according to police.

The man led cops on a chase through Eastern Parkway and the Utica Avenue subway station just after 4 a.m. after they were called to the street by reports of a man armed with a knife and gun, NYPD Assistant Chief Michael Kemper said at a press conference.

Police repeatedly commanded the man — who had a knife in one hand and his other hand in his pocket — to drop his weapon while he ran through the street and into the station, Kemper said.

In the station, two cops used their tasers on the man, to no effect. He then ran back out onto the street, where he was met by more cops telling him to drop the weapon, Kemper said.

"...It was at this time that the male began to advance toward the officers and then suddenly charged at them with the knife," said Kemper, who commands the Brooklyn South Patrol Bureau. "Two of the officers fired several rounds at the man striking him in the torso."

The two officers fired a total of ten rounds at the man. He was taken to Kings County Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said.

Some of the officers were also taken to the hospital for evaluation, Kemper said.

(NYPD). Police recovered the knife from the man.

Police found an approximately seven-inch knife at the scene and recovered no firearm, Kemper said.

Police are using the man's fingerprints to identify him and will also investigate why the taser was ineffective, Kemper said. It is possible the taser wasn't able to penetrate the jacket the man was wearing, he added.
