Tyrik Mott faces assault, manslaughter and other charges after allegedly colliding with another car, striking a family crossing the street.

PROSPECT HEIGHTS, BROOKLYN — A Prospect Heights man has been charged with first- and second-degree assault and second-degree manslaughter in connection with a September car crash that killed a 3-month-old girl and injured her mother.
Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez announced the charges against suspect Tyrik Mott, 29, on Thursday.
Mott has also been charged with leaving the scene of an incident, reckless endangerment and other related charges, Gonzalez's office said in a news release.

An investigation found that on Sept. 11 at around 6 p.m., Mott allegedly drove a Honda Civic eastbound on a portion of Gates Avenue that is a westbound one-way street.
"He entered the intersection at Vanderbilt Avenue, a two-way street, and collided with another Honda Civic driving north with the light," the press release says. "The two cars then stuck a couple crossing Gates Avenue inside the crosswalk with a stroller."

The accident caused the death of 3-month-old Apolline Mong Guillemin, and her mother sustained serious injuries.

After the accident, Mott allegedly ran out of his vehicle, fled on foot, and attempted to carjack a Hyundai Santa Fe about two blocks away, where he was apprehended by two police officers and his driver's license was suspended, the news release said.
"This defendant allegedly drove in a shockingly reckless and criminal manner and destroyed a family in a matter of seconds. A young baby lost her life and her mother suffered life-altering injuries in a case of vehicular violence that simply cannot be tolerated," Gonzalez said. "We intend to now seek justice for little Apolline and will continue to aggressively prosecute unlawful drivers who show disregard for the rules of the road and for the lives of everyone using Brooklyn’s streets."
Mott was arraigned on a 22-count indictment on Thursday and faces up to 25 years in prison if convicted of the top count, the news release said.
He was previously charged with second-degree attempted robbery, third and fourth-degree grand larceny and third-degree attempted unauthorized use of a vehicle.
His bail was set at $150,000 cash or $350,000 bond and he was ordered to return to court on Nov. 30.
