Drunken Driver Charged After Crash Kills 1, Hurts 1 In BK: Cops
A 23-year-old passenger succumbed to his injuries the day after being thrown from a car that crashed on Saratoga Avenue, police said.

BROOKLYN, NY — A drunken driver is facing a slew of charges after he crashed into another car over the weekend in Brooklyn, killing his passenger and hurting another driver, according to police.
Jovanni Padilla, 26, was speeding down Saratoga Avenue in a Nissan Maxima just after 6:30 a.m. Saturday morning when he collided with a Kia at Sutter Avenue, police said.
The crash threw 23-year-old Kainen Martin, who was a passenger in the Nissan, out of the car as it careened into two parked vehicles, according to police. Martin was taken to the hospital, but succumbed to his injuries the next day, police said.

Padilla, who was arrested just an hour after the crash, was taken to the hospital with minor injuries. The 55-year-old driver from the Kia was also sent to the hospital with minor injuries, police said.
Padilla faces assault, leaving the scene of an accident with serious injury, vehicular assault, driving while intoxicated, reckless driving, driving without a license, driving while impaired by alcohol, running a red light and other charges, according to police.

He and Martin lived just a block from one another in Brownsville, according to police.
