PROSPECT LEFFERTS GARDENS, BROOKYLN — A fire at the massive Ebbets Field complex on Sunday evening left three residents injured and took over an hour to quench, according to FDNY officials.

At just before 8 p.m., a fire broke out on the first floor of the 25-story, 1,300-unit complex at 1700 Bedford Avenue, an FDNY official told Patch.

As smoke eaters fought the flames, officials said they got multiple reports of smoke throughout the building.

This is the second fire at the former Brooklyn Dodgers site in six months.

In October, a fire on the 16th floor injured a resident who had to be treated at a nearby hospital.

Other fires have been far more costly.

In 2008, firefighter Lt. John H. Martinson, serving Brooklyn’s Engine Company 249 at the time, died while fighting a blaze in an apartment on the 14th floor of another building in the Ebbets Field Apartments complex.

That 2008 fire was caused by a resident using her stove to warm her inadequately heated apartment, according to the New York Times.

In 2018, a tenant told Patch that fires are common at the Ebbets Field Apartments.

"Just fire. Non-stop," said the tenant, who pleaded for months with her landlords to fix a three-foot-wide hole in her balconyafter a fire tore through her third-story home.
