PROSPECT-LEFFERTS GARDENS, BROOKLYN — The City Council has set aside $2.5 million for much-needed restoration work at Prospect Park's 18th-century Lefferts Historic House, as first reported by DNAinfo.
Prospect Park Alliance spokeswoman Grace McCreight said the money will be used to put a new roof on the aged structure — last replaced in 1990 — which will help prevent leaks and other deterioration.

The house will also be getting a new coat of paint, McCreight said, while work will be done to beautify the paths surrounding the building and to help them drain more efficiently.
McCreight said the work must still go through the park's normal design and bidding process, meaning it won't be completed until 2017 or 2018.

Originally a farm house in Flatbush before its move to the park, the building saw 42,000 visitors in 2015, according to park statistics.
This Saturday and Sunday, visitors to the house can help tend its potato plot, herb gardens and berry patches from 2-4 p.m.
On on July 4th from 1-4 p.m., you can drop by to make a revolutionary-era hat and sign a copy of the Declaration of Independence.
