Bed-Stuy Man Arrested In Crutch Attack On Boy Near Prospect Park: NYPD

BROOKLYN, NEW YORK — Police arrested a Bed-Stuy man they say used a crutch to beat a 12-boy in an unprovoked and bizarre attack near Prospect Park last week, according to the NYPD.
Jamal McIlwain, 28, was arrested on charges of assault, menacing and injuring a minor on Wednesday, authorities said.
McIlwain stands accused of attacking the 12-year-old boy at the corner of Saint Paul's Place and Saint Paul's Court in Prospect Park South just after 7:30 a.m. on Nov. 17, police said.

The Bed-Stuy man had previously arrested for attempted murder, part of a lengthy rap sheet with 23 prior arrests, according to the Daily News, eventually serving nearly two years at upstate Sing Sing Correctional Facility.
According to PIX11, the boy said he is doing much better, but is still wondering why the man randomly attacked him.

"It’s weird how he ran across the street just to hit me," he told PIX11.
"I’m feeling better than a few days ago when I got hit. The eye used to be swollen very much," the 12-year-old boy shared with PIX11. "I didn’t do anything to him, so how come he has a grudge against me?"
