Man Who Pulled Gun At Brooklyn Barbecue Faces Murder Charge: DA
Kevin Phillips was arraigned this week for the May incident, when prosecutors say he shot two men after an argument in a backyard gathering.
BROOKLYN, NY — A man who pulled a gun on two people after an argument at a Brooklyn barbecue has been arraigned on murder and assault charges, prosecutors announced this week.
Kevin Phillips, 40, was arraigned Monday on second-degree murder, second-degree attempted murder, second-degree assault and other charges for the May shooting, which unfolded during a barbecue in a Flatbush backyard, prosecutors said.
The shooting landed one man in the hospital and killed 31-year-old Miles Bobb-Semple.

"It is alleged that a verbal dispute tragically escalated and caused this defendant to inexplicably pull out a handgun at a large gathering and shoot two people, one fatally, while endangering many others," Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez said. "We will now seek to bring him to justice for these alleged actions."
The argument between the three men unfolded after Phillips bumped into one of them in the Remsen Avenue backyard around 12:21 a.m. on May 17, prosecutors said.

The man, Bobb-Semple and Phillips had a verbal dispute before Philips took out his gun and shot the other two, prosecutors said.
Bobb-Semple was shot in the chest and taken by private means to Kings County Hospital, where he later died, according to officials. The other man, shot in each leg and the shoulder, was found on Remsen Avenue by police that night, officials said.
It was only in the days after the incident that police realized Bobb-Semple and the man found on Remsen Avenue had been hurt in the same shooting, police said at the time.
Phillips was arrested in October by the NYPD's Fugitive Apprehension Task Force, prosecutors said.
He was ordered held without bail and will return to court in February, prosecutors said.
