BROOKLYN, NY — Let the reign of Brooklyn begin.
The inauguration ceremony for Mayor-elect Eric Adams — along with the city's next comptroller and public advocate — will be held at Brooklyn's historic Kings Theatre to celebrate that all three citywide leaders hail from the borough, Adams announced.
The ceremony, typically held at City Hall, will be held Jan. 1.

“It is symbolically impactful for me to be inaugurated as New York City’s 110th mayor in the heart of Flatbush, on behalf of this working-class community and communities like it across the five boroughs who have elected one of their own to lead our recovery," Adams said Tuesday. "Kings Theatre has made so many wonderful memories over its storied history, and on January 1st we will make even more history there together."
The event will include the swearing in of Adams, who lives in Bed-Stuy, Park Slope City Council Member Brad Lander as city comptroller and Jumaane Williams, who is from Flatbush, to his first full term as Public Advocate.

It will be held on a Saturday to support New Yorkers who observe the Sabbath, the officials said.
"On January 1st, New York begins a new era with new citywide leadership, and I am eager to partner with my fellow citywide elected officials to work on behalf of and for the betterment of New Yorkers,” Williams said in a release.
The Kings Theatre, formerly the Loew's Kings Theatre, was first opened in 1929 as a "movie palace" and closed in 1977. It reopened in 2015 after a renovation.
The officials said all attendees to the ceremony — which will include family, community leaders and other select New Yorkers — will need to show proof of vaccination to enter the 3,000-seat venue.
