Nostrand Ave Ice Cream Shop Named Among The Best In New York City

The Caribbean-American scoop shop, found on the Crown Heights border, was among 18 "essential" ice cream spots for this summer.

CROWN HEIGHTS, BROOKLYN — A Caribbean-American scoop shop found on the Crown Heights border is among the best ice cream destinations across the five boroughs, according to a new ranking.

Creme and Cocoa Creamery on Nostrand Avenue was named in Eater's list of "18 Essential Ice Cream Shops in NYC," released Tuesday just in time for summer.

The Brooklyn spot was praised for its unique Caribbean flavors, including non-dairy, seasonal and alcoholic options.

"People hear tropical and think of mangoes and pineapples, but here you will find additional, deep-rooted flavors like sorrel (native to Jamaica), soursop, passion fruit, and papaya," Creme and Coca write on their website. "Making small batches every week, the staff at Creme & Cocoa continues to introduce new flavor varieties to their customers."

At total of seven Brooklyn spots made it onto Eater's list.

Among them are Davey's Ice Cream and Van Leeuwen in Greenpoint, Indian-inspired Malai Ice Cream, Mexican-American scoop shop La Newyorkina, Brooklyn Farmacy & Soda Fountain and Sweet Dynasty in Sunset Park.
