PROSPECT LEFFERTS GARDENS, BROOKLYN — A Prospect Lefferts Gardens man has been indicted for building "ghost guns" from dozens of parts purchased on the internet, prosecutors said.

Dexter Nurse, 49, was indicted on Wednesday in Brooklyn on several firearms related charges, including criminal possession of a weapon, prohibition on unfinished frames or receivers and unlawful possession of pistol ammunition, said Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez.

"This defendant allegedly assembled four handguns and acquired the parts and tools to make more, illustrating the ease with which someone can obtain and make these lethal and untraceable weapons, and the increasing threat they pose to public safety," Gonzalez said in a statement. "Eradicating deadly ghost guns from Brooklyn is a priority for my office, and we are committed to holding accountable anyone who traffics, makes, or possesses them."

Nurse's bail was set at $250,000 and his case will be heard in Brooklyn Supreme Court in April, prosecutors said.

During the investigation conducted by the Brooklyn DA's Ghost Gun Unit, prosecutors said that Nurse had made 56 firearms related purchases on eBay for ghost gun parts between January 2022 and October 2022, shipping the materials to his Lefferts Avenue address.

This past November, investigators searched the apartment and found four fully assembled handguns, 9mm ammunition, polymer parts and tools to assemble additional guns, according to a release from Gonzalez's office.
