Small PLG Street Sees Fire, Police Standoff In 1 Day: Officials

Westbury Court saw a fire that left two people seriously injured and a standoff between cops and a barricaded person Thursday morning.

PROSPECT LEFFERTS GARDENS, BROOKLYN — Chaos erupted on a small dead-end street Thursday morning where a fire left two people seriously hurt and, just hours later, police worked to capture an emotionally disturbed person locked in an apartment.

Police rushed to 2101 Westbury Court, off Flatbush Avenue near Winthrop Street, about 9:20 a.m.to apprehend a person barricaded in an apartment , according to the NYPD.

Video shows police and ambulances blocked off the street as they worked to reach the person refusing to leave a Westbury Court apartment.

Earlier that morning, a fire erupted across the street on the fifth floor of 2100 Westbury Court about 12:40 a.m., according to the FDNY.

Two people were hurt — one critically and one seriously — and rushed to Presbyterian and Kings County hospitals, officials said.

The fire was put under control at 1:30 a.m., said the FDNY.
