Man Shot, Teen Assaulted Along West Indian Day Parade Route

BREAKING: A 19-year-old was reportedly assaulted and a man was shot in the torso in separate incidents.

CROWN HEIGHTS, NY — At least one person was assaulted and another shot along the West Indian Day Parade route in Crown Heights Monday, according to reports and officials.

One person was reportedly stabbed and another man cut in separate incidents during the annual parade, the New York Post reported.

In the first incident, at 277 Eastern Parkway, a 19-year-old was stabbed around 3:35 p.m, according to the post. An NYPD spokesman told Patch that the man had been the victim of an assault and not a stabbing. In the second incident that happened around 10 minutes later, a man suffered a minor cut at 175 Eastern Parkway, according to the Post. An NYPD spokesman told Patch that the man was "uncooperative" and it was determined that he was not stabbed.

In another incident, at 672 Eastern Parkway, the FDNY responded to the report of a person shot around 4:50 p.m.. The NYPD said a man was shot in the torso and transported to Kings County Hospital in stable condition.

A reported for the New York Daily News who witnessed the assault at 277 Eastern Parkway described people screaming and crowds knocking over barriers to escape the chaos.

On Sunday night, before the J'Ouvert parade got underway, one man was killed and another wounded in two separate shootings in northern Crown Heights. No arrests have been made. The shootings happened within a mile or two of the parade route but there is no indication that there was any connection to the parade.
