Woman Struck By Subway In PLG, In Critical Condition: Police

An unidentified woman was struck by a train at Church Avenue early Wednesday morning, police said.

PROSPECT-LEFFERTS GARDENS, BROOKLYN — An unidentified woman was hit by a 2 train early Wednesday morning, with early indications suggesting she may have jumped in front of the subway, police said.

At just past 1:30 a.m., a woman jumped in front of a moving northbound 2 train as it was entering the Church Avenue subway station, police said.

The victim was brought to Kings County Hospital by first responders in critical condition, authorities said.

Trains ran with extensive delays for hours afterwards, according to the NYCT Subway Twitter account.

In a year when train suicides and other train collisions have spiked, MTA officials have put forward ideas to prevent riders from entering the tracks, including platform barrier doors like ones used at JFK's AirTrain and many other subway networks around the world.

Last June, the MTA finally announced, after years of declaring it impractical in New York City's aged subway infrastructure, that a platform door pilot would begin at three stations across the city.
