- The NYPD is currently searching for a burglary suspect who reportedly broke into seven homes throughout Queens and stole more than $120,000 worth of property. Authorities said an East Flushing homeowner's surveillance video caught a thief rummaging through their belongings when they were away. This suspect may not have acted alone, though: Police also said three men broke into a home near Laburnum Avenue and 59th Street, stealing $22,000 worth of property. Anyone with any information that could help identify the suspects is asked to call NYPD Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-8477. (CBS New York)
- On Friday, Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney rallied with Queens business leaders, restaurant owners, and suppliers to get federal legislation passed for restaurant industry aid. The group gathered at the Court Square Diner in Long Island City to call on Congress to pass three of Maloney's bills, which would provide relief to restaurant businesses across the country that have been impacted by the pandemic. "I thank the good work and advocacy of the Queens Chamber of Commerce for helping restaurants and small businesses keep their doors open, and I am proud to be their voice in the halls of Congress," said Maloney at the rally. - As pandemic restrictions ease up, Queens courtrooms are ready to hold more trials and "bring justice to court users quicker," say local judges. The reduction of social distancing requirements from six to three feet will allow the court to increase its trial capacity from six to 10 simultaneous trials. "Our workforce is effectively fully vaccinated ... and we have a powerful, productive new hybrid operating model to help us manage our dockets and deliver justice services as effectively, efficiently, and safely as possible," said Chief Judge Janet DiFiore.
