- A lottery is open for affordable units by the Astoria waterfront. Those who want to live at the Astoria West development, located at 11-37 31st Ave., have until May 19 to apply for one of the 36 units. However, units are not for low-income earners — rents range from $2,250 per month for one-bedrooms to $2,950 a month for two bedrooms. (Astoria Post)
- Queens Borough President Donovan Richards has endorsed the LaGuardia Airport boat service. The novel concept was floated by the Port Authority to get people to and from LGA using a new ferry service that connects with Manhattan’s East Side. The proposed ferry would have shuttle buses take passengers to ferry landings in Bowery Bay or Flushing Bay, and would make stops along the East River at East 90th Street, East 34th Street, and Pier 11 downtown. (New York Post)
- The city's first Link5G "Smart Pole" stands quietly in Queens. This early version of the 32-foot-tall towers stands alone at the corner of 30th Place and Hunters Point Avenue and is just used for testing. While this version does not have a screen for digital advertisements, like the 1,816 LinkNYC kiosks citywide, future versions of the pole will. (Patch)
