  1. A new Chinese hot pot restaurant will be opening in Long Island City this summer. Global franchise Da Long Yi will be opening in August at 42-22 Crescent St. – a new 9-story mixed-use building near Queens Plaza South. The restaurant, which is known for its signature Chinese hot pots, will mark the company’s first in Queens and second in New York City following on from its Chinatown outpost in Manhattan. (LIC Post)
  2. A local nonprofit won a national award for its Alzheimer’s program. Sunnyside Community Services was awarded the “Innovations in Alzheimer’s Caregiving Award” by The Rosalinde and Arthur Gilbert Foundation, Bader Philanthropies, Inc., and Family Caregiver Alliance last week. The organization’s “Care NYC” program, which provides caregivers with support and training to help them care for their loved ones who may be living with Alzheimer’s, was one of three programs across the country to get the award.   3. Firefighters battled a five-alarm fire in Queens on Wednesday night. FDNY responded to the call just after 7:00 p.m. and found the blaze burning through a business on 101st Avenue in Jamaica, which Acting Chief of Department John Hodgens said is a plumbing and electrical supplies store. As of Wednesday night, no injuries were reported. (WPIX 11 New York)
