Filing Taxes At The Last Minute: Here's How To Do It In NYC
It's possible to file your taxes up until midnight Tuesday.

NEW YORK, NY — Left your taxes 'til the last minute? Don't panic — there's still time to file your dues to Uncle Sam before Tuesday's midnight deadline.
Here's how to make sure you don't get in trouble with the IRS and, if you really can't get the paperwork done in time, request an extension.
- First, if you haven't picked up your tax forms yet, you may do so at local libraries or online at http://www.irs.gov/ or http://www.tax.state.ny.us/forms/.
- Taxes can be filed directly at USPS locations or dropped off at collection boxes. If you're using a collection box, make sure to double-check the pick-up schedule and deposit your documents before that passes. Packages that weigh more than 13 ounces must be sent through a post office.
- All mail must be deposited before the final collection time at a post office or a collection box in order to ensure an April 18 postmark. Filings postmarked later may incur a penalty.
- Make sure to use the correct amount of postage. A rough estimate is that five pages weigh about an ounce.
- Include a return address to ensure the return of your documents.
- USPS recommends you get proof of mailing or proof of delivery.
