  1. Republican candidate Vickie Paladino is on the verge of defeating Senator and Councilman Tony Avella in the northeast Queens City Council race to capture the District 19 seat. While Paladino is leading in the race, according to the city’s Board of Elections unofficial results, absentee ballots must be counted. The absentee ballot count begins next week. (QNS.com)
  2. A Queens woman has died after being brutalized by her boyfriend. On Monday around 11:25 p.m., police found the unconscious woman bleeding from blunt force trauma to her genital region from a “large blunt object” allegedly used by 52-year-old boyfriend Qiuming Wan. The suspect and his girlfriend, 26-year-old Jiaomei Zhou, were together in his rented SRO residence in the Flushing building on Main St. near 56th Ave. when the boyfriend attacked her.   3. Local artist Rey Rosa, known as “The Drif,” is using his talent to bring the magic of Christmas to children who are sick. To help kick-off Macy’s Believe Campaign, the Queens Center location has unveiled three large murals to inspire their letter-writing campaign to Santa. For each letter written to Santa, Macy’s is donating $1 to Make-A-Wish, which has added up to more than $25 million and over 16,000 wishes granted. (CBS New York)
  4. The annual neighborhood dance-off competition that pits duos against each other, 'Dancing With the Queens Stars,' will return to Long Island City on Friday with a slightly different twist. The event will see duos – consisting of one member of the Queens community and one professional dancer– dance-off against one another at Culture Lab LIC, located at 5-25 46th Ave. Dancing with the Queens Stars will take place on Nov. 5 from 6 to 9 p.m. at the facility’s parking lot.   5. The Flushing Town Hall will celebrate Diwali with art, dance, food, and music on Nov. 6. Among those participating in the festival is master teaching artist Abha Roy, artist director of the Queens-based Srijan Dance Center, who will provide a primer on Bollywood, Bhangra, and Kathak dance moves. This seventh annual event, which is in-person and virtual this year, will follow Covid safety protocols. (Western Queens Gazett)
