'Fountain Plaza' Dedicated To The Women Of Queens Lacks Water

A new plaque advertises a fountain that isn't actually there.

QUEENS, NEW YORK CITY - The city on Tuesday dedicated a fountain to the women of Queens – but failed to include any actual water feature, DNAinfo reported..

The addition to Union Turnpike and Queens Boulevard came after officials removed a statue of Hercules trouncing female incarnations of "vice" and corruption," which some had complained was sexist, from "Women's Plaza," according to the report.

While a plaque in the plaza states, "This fountain plaza is dedicated to the women of Queens," the area is noticeably lacking any water-spouting features.

Former Queens Borough President Helen Marshall, who died earlier this year, had envisioned a statue with the names of Queens women in the plaza.

The reopening left some residents underwhelmed, DNAinfo reported.

Queens resident Andrew Crowford said she'd hoped to see a piece of public art.

“If indeed it’s dedicated to the women of Queens, there should be something,"she told DNAinfo.

The stature of Hercules was relocated to Green-wood Cemetery in 2012.
