Here are the top three stories today in Queens:
- Tonight (Jan. 5), Southeast Queens lawmakers will host a town hall in Arverne to discuss the flooding and damages caused by the recent winter storm. Numerous government agencies (federal, state, and city) will be present to provide an assessment of the flooding and other damage caused by the winter storm, and to discuss what actions are being taken to address it in parts of southeast Queens and the Rockaways. Tonight's town hall will take place from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at Goldie Maple Academy, located at 365 Beach 56th St. in Arverne. (QNS)
- Tomorrow, Jan. 6, free immigration and legal services will be available outside the Flushing Library inside a mobile unit. Services will be offered by The New York Legal Assistance Group’s Mobile Legal Help Center from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., helping Queens residents looking for immigration, housing, and consumer credit assistance. No appointment is necessary — walk-ups are accepted. (Patch)
- A 22-year-old man was assaulted with a metal pipe in Elmhurst on New Year's Day. According to the NYPD, the victim was speaking to two men in front of 80-03 Roosevelt Avenue when he was hit multiple times. The two suspects have been described as approximately 18 to 28 years of age with a medium build. The link provides photos (released by the police) of the suspects. (Queens Patch)
