- A group of neighbors is trying to raise $80K to save the Trylon Theater by making a "plea of passion" to worldwide Art Deco enthusiasts. The theater, located in Rego Park, is a historic-theater-turned-synagogue that's slated for demolition. Trylon Theater was built in 1939 and named after the World Fair's centerpiece from that year. This is only one of several Queens Boulevard buildings that developers plan to demolish to build a 15-story luxury building. A petition to end the demolition has raised over 4,200 signatures. (Patch)
- For the first time ever, the average price for a gallon of regular gas broke the $5 mark in Queens on Thursday. The BP station on Long Island City displayed $5.03 for a gallon of regular gas. According to the AAA, NYC's average price of regular gas is at an all-time high at $5.02 a gallon with the average for premium gas being $5.56 a gallon and $6.77 for diesel. (LIC Post)
- An arrest has been made almost two months after the brazen daylight beating that left beloved NYC store owner, Arasb Shoughi, dead. Authorities have arrested Rondolfo Lopez-Portillo, 48, from Queens, for allegedly beating Shoughi at his Global Pawn store on Jamaica Avenue so savagely cops initially thought he'd been shot in the head. Lopez-Portillo faces murder, robbery, and criminal weapons possession charges in the March 28 attack. (NBC New York)
