  1. On Friday, family, friends, and thousands of fellow firefighters gathered to bid a final farewell to a fallen FDNY firefighter. Shortly after noon, the funeral mass for 31-year-old Timothy Klein got underway at St. Francis de Sales Church in Belle Harbor, Queens. Up to 20,000 people were in attendance for the funeral, honoring the firefighter who died Sunday when flames engulfed the second floor of a home, causing part of the ceiling to collapse. (WABC-TV)
  2. A free concert featuring a mix of jazz and classical music will take place at Sunnyside Community Services next week. Beginning at 2:00 p.m., the concert will feature performances by two separate groups, Mavis Pan String Quartet and Mark Wade Trio, and is expected to last around an hour. The free event takes place on May 7 at 43-31 39th St., and will also be streamed via the Sunnyside Community Services Facebook page. (Astoria Post)
  3. An Astoria street will bear the name of a pioneering LGBT activist family. Today at 2:00 p.m., a street sign will be unveiled as "Stanley, Kathleen & Robert Rygor Way" at the corner of 34th Street and Broadway. Although the Rygor family no longer lives on the street they called home for 67 years, the street will be co-named for the beloved Astoria figures who were active in the LGBT rights movement following the untimely death of their son.
