Here are the top three stories today in Queens:
- A fatal Queens house fire killed one and injured 10 others, which began from a lithium-ion battery. Two floors of a home on 89th Street went up in flames, leaving one occupant dead due to smoke inhalation and four firefighters taken to hospitals for treatment. The incident adds to a series of fires raising concern in the area. (PIX11 New York News)
- A shooting outside a Queens nightclub left a 19-year-old male dead and injured another woman. The shooting occurred at the Amadeus Nightclub on Albion Avenue on Saturday after what police believe to be an argument that initiated the violence. The 31-year-old woman is in stable condition. Police are still looking for the suspect, who fled in a black and white SUV. (WABC-TV)
- Newly elected Rep. George Santos, 34, is facing numerous allegations, which have sparked demands for his resignation and prompted two investigations. Santos is accused of falsifying aspects of his resume, the circumstances of his mother's death, having questionable campaign finances reporting, and stealing from a fundraising campaign for a dying dog. He has acknowledged faking his educational background and job history on his resume; however, he repeatedly mentioned he does not plan on resigning. (USA TODAY)
