Girl Scouts of Nassau County and American Airlines Work Together to Help Girls' Future Careers Take Flight
Girl Scouts of Nassau County recently joined forces with American Airlines to offer Girl Scouts a one-of-a-kind opportunity to learn about the wide range of aviation careers from women pilots, aerospace mechanics, navigators, flight attendants and other professionals who live it every day. More than 150 Girl Scouts from across Long Island spent the day at LaGuardia Airport, where they experienced boarding a plane, taxiing the runway, learning how planes work, and speaking with women in aviation. This event exemplifies the Girl Scouts’ commitment to introducing girls to inspiring role models in STEM fields.
“Girl Scouts of Nassau County is dedicated to showing girls that the sky's the limit when it comes to their future, and this aviation program is a perfect way to open girls’ minds about the endless possibilities and career options they have today,” said CEO of Girl Scouts of Nassau County Rande Bynum. “By partnering with American Airlines, girls have the chance to learn about the aviation industry and meet incredible women leading in their fields. Watching our Girl Scouts engage, ask questions, and realize that these careers are within their reach is truly inspiring.”
The partnership with American Airlines is part of the Girl Scouts of Nassau County's ongoing mission to expose Girl Scouts to science and technology-related careers and connect them with inspirational role models to help empower them as they explore future careers.

“It’s an honor for us to empower young girls to pursue a career in aviation and we’re proud to showcase the exciting opportunities American has to offer,” said Yu Lee, American Airlines Managing Director of LGA Operations. “Positive female mentorship has helped to shape my career along the way, and our team is excited to show our support and provide guidance to the future generation of women in aviation.”
“This experience was one of a kind as it is not every day that one gets to see a hanger, it was so impressive,” said Amanda R from Woodbury. “I hope that this program was a chance for girls to understand that they can make a difference, considering we met Bonnie Tiburzi -the first female commercial airline pilot, and truly do anything they set their mind to, including getting a CEO position like Suzette Noble.”
