Hispanic Theatre in Sunnyside To Upgrade 25-Year-Old Sound System
The theatre will upgrade its system through a $50,000 grant secured by Senate Deputy Leader Michael Gianaris.
QUEENS — A bilingual theatre in Sunnyside that features flamenco productions, tago shows, and salsa concerts will upgrade its over two-decade-old sound system through a state grant.
The Thalia Spanish Theater, located at 41-17 Greenpoint Ave., will receive a $50,000 grant from the New York State Council on the Arts to renovate their 25-year-old sound system
"Thalia Spanish Theatre is the only bilingual Hispanic theatre in Queens, serving one of the most diverse communities in the U.S., including over one million Hispanics," said Angel Gil Orrios, executive director of the Thalia Spanish Theatre.

"Its mission is to promote and celebrate the vibrancy and diversity of Hispanic/Latino culture and heritage with unique productions of theatre, music and dance," he said.
The theatre has been open for over 47 years, featuring more than 245 productions that have won Latin Grammy, state, and city awards.

In March, Thalia Spanish Theatre received the Talia Internacional Prize and a gold medal from the Academy of Performing Arts of Spain.
The funds for the upgrades were secured by Senate Deputy Leader Michael Gianaris.
