Here are the top three stories in Queens today:
- A scene from an action film played out in Jamaica Bay yesterday morning. NYPD divers leaped from a helicopter into the bay to help a man whose jet ski had overturned. According to police, the call came at 8:00 a.m. for help after the man's jet ski overturned due to the choppy waters in the bay. The man was taken to Floyd Bennett Field where he required no further medical attention. See the exciting rescue video at the link. (NBC New York)
- The J and Z lines will be shut down for track replacement beginning on Friday. The MTA sent out a reminder to subway riders that the track replacement work on J and Z lines will begin on Friday, Jul. 1, and continue for two months. During the replacement of the 40-year-old track and third rail, no J or Z trains will visit the Jamaica Center Parsons/Archer station or the Sutphin Boulevard-Archer Avenue-JFK Airport stop. - The Armory Show will bring large-scale sculptures to the US Open. The global sporting competition will feature sculptures from artists of underrepresented backgrounds on the grounds of the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center. The partnership is a continuation of The Armory Off-Site program which began last year. Works by artists like Gerald Chukwuma, Jose Dávila, and Luzene Hill will be featured in the show.
