Here are the top stories in Queens today:

  1. Ten of New York State's mass COVID-19 vaccination sites, including the Aqueduct Racetrack in Queens, are now offering shots to children ages 5 to 11, Governor Kathy Hochul said on Saturday. More than 50,000 children in the state already have received their first dose of the vaccine at doctors’ offices, pharmacies, and other smaller locations prior to this weekend. Appointments for vaccinations for children can be made on the state's website. (WRVO Public Media)
  2. Police are currently searching for a man who was accused of rubbing his groin against two female riders on separate MTA buses in Queens last week. According to a police report, the suspect targeted his first victim after boarding a Q65 MTA bus at 164th Street and Hillside Avenue on Wednesday. He exited the bus after four stops, walked back to the original stop, and reboarded to target his second victim, a 14-year-old girl. (New York Post)
  3. The two NYPD cops who left a motorcyclist and his girlfriend to die in Sunnyside after a high-speed police chase in 2018 are currently facing a sentence of just 20 days lost vacation time. The officers allegedly drove away after watching Steve Goddard Jr.'s motorcycle slam into another vehicle, with the victims left "bleeding and suffering in the street," and then hid details of the lethal chase from their NYPD supervisors, according to a lawsuit filed by the Goddard family. The victim's father expressed that he felt the proposed sentence was "definitely insulting" and that the officers should lose more than vacation time for the negligence that led to the death of his son and his girlfriend. (New York Daily News)
  4. A "Day of Action" event was held on Saturday to help the many Queens residents who are still feeling the effects of this summer's Hurricane Ida. Victims of hurricane damage were given food, cleaning supplies, and clothes. Contractors were also present to let residents know how the government could help subsidize repairs costs. (WPIX 11 New York)
  5. As Macy's prepares for its annual Thanksgiving Day Parade, some new balloons went for a test flight in Queens on Saturday. Some new "faces" for the 2021 event include Baby Yoda and Netflix’s Ada Twist, Scientist. Approximately 200 volunteers walked the new characters around a test track at Citi Field.
