Man Sentenced To Prison After 2020 Fatal Car Crash In Queens: DA

Jason Bical was sentenced to up to 15 years in prison after drunk driving and killing Taher Ali Hassan, prosecutors said.

QUEENS — A man from Brooklyn was sentenced to prison after a car crash in Queens left one person dead in December 2020, the Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz said Wednesday.

Jason Bical, 36, was sentenced to up to 15 years in prison for vehicular manslaughter after drunk driving and killing Taher Ali Hassan, 63, in a car crash on Dec. 9 on the Belt Parkway near 131st Street about 12:45 a.m., prosecutors said.

Bical was speeding on a white 2017 Chevrolet Malibu westbound on the Belt Parkway when he struck Hassan, who was taken to a local hospital and died, Katz said.

The 36-year-old’s blood alcohol level was .174, twice the legal limit, the district attorney said.

Biscal also had cocaine and marijuana in his system during the crash, and two plastic bags containing cocaine were found in his car, prosecutors said.
