Mets Owner To Host Public Meeting In Queens, Discuss Citi Field Plans
The public meeting is slated for Jan. 7, 2023 at Citi Field, located at 41 Seaver Way.

QUEENS — New York Mets owner Steve Cohen will host a public session for Queens residents and workers to discuss possible new entertainment installations around Citi Field.
The public meeting is slated for Jan. 7, 2023 at Citi Field, located at 41 Seaver Way, where attendees are invited to propose ways to create entertainment opportunities and job opportunities in the 50 acres surrounding the field in Willets Point.
“For months, we have been listening to the local community who keeps telling us there is more they want from the area,” Cohen said in a statement this week. “Everyone agrees that the status quo isn’t acceptable. We are committed to putting forward a vision for the area that will create a shared space that people not only want to come to and enjoy, but can be proud of.”

Earlier this year, Cohen was working to secure one of the three available commercial casino licenses for downstate New York.
In January’s meeting, Cohen aims to discuss how to bring entertainment to the surrounding area of the baseball field, which is currently vacant asphalt.

“Entertainment is the economic engine that will make this area a destination every single day of the year— regardless of the weather or if it’s baseball season,” reads a statement by New Green Willets LLC, a lobbying group formed by Cohen.
The move comes after the city announced an agreement to build a 25,000-seat soccer stadium near Citi Field.
The new Willets Point development will also include over 2,500 affordable home units, a new 650-seat elementary school, a hotel, and retail shops, Mayor Eric Adams announced in November.
Queens residents and workers can RSVP for the event here.
