Here are the top three stories today in Queens:
- New renderings have revealed plans for a seven-story residential building at 143-26 84th Road in Jamaica. The property is the latest from Commerce Realty Group, a New York-based brokerage and development firm, and will be comprised of roughly 29,000 square feet with 42 rental units. At this time, an estimated date of completion has not been announced. (New York YIMBY)
- NYPD is cracking down on moped drivers who use the Queensboro Bridge bike/pedestrian lane. On Tuesday, officers from the 108th Precinct issued numerous summonses and confiscated three gas-powered mopeds at the entrance of the 59th Street Bridge bike and pedestrian path from drivers who were illegally using the bike lane to cross the East River. The use of mopeds has become a dangerous problem on the path, even though by law, mopeds, motorcycles, and other vehicles that require a license plate and DMV registration are banned from bike lanes. (Astoria Post)
- After five years, a missing dog was found 1,000 miles away from home. Jen Costa's dog, Azzurra Diamante, disappeared from a home in Queens in 2016. Costa spent months trying to find her dog to no avail. However, after the dog showed up at the front door of a home in Henderson, Tennessee, she was brought to an animal shelter where a microchip was used to locate her owner back in Queens. (WHIO Radio)
