QUEENS, NY — An NYPD highway officer was arrested Thursday in Queens on child pornography charges, according to local prosecutors.

Yavier Julio, a 35-year-old Suffolk County resident, faces four charges of promoting and possessing sexual performances by a child after authorities found videos on his phone that showed adults sexually abusing children between the ages of two and six, prosecutors said.

Prosecutors say Julio texted a video of a woman sexually abusing a boy on Nov. 9, 2019. About two weeks later, authorities got a warrant to search his phone and found two additional videos of children being sexually abused, according to the Queens district attorney's office.

"This alleged behavior is wholly unacceptable of anyone - especially a member of law enforcement," Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz said.

Julio joined the NYPD in 2011 and worked for the department's highway division, according to the New York Post. He was immediately suspended without pay, NYPD Commissioner Dermot Shea said.
