Here are the top three stories in Queens today:
- One motorcyclist is dead and another was injured after a collision with a car on Sunday. According to police, the incident happened at about 1:10 p.m. on Beach Channel Drive at Beach 45th Street in Edgemere. One motorcyclist died at the scene, while the other was taken to Jamaica Hospital. The second victim is in critical condition as of Sunday evening. The driver was taken to St. John's Episcopal Hospital where he is expected to recover. (New York Daily News)
- As New York City nears 500 confirmed monkeypox cases, three new vaccination clinics opened this weekend. Aviation High School in Queens, Bushwick Education in Brooklyn, and Bronx High School of Science played host to pop-up clinics on Sunday. Demand for the vaccine is outpacing supply, but the three locations vaccinated 4,200 New Yorkers for the disease on Sunday. Officials expect more doses to arrive from the federal government in the next week. (CBS New York)
- A Queens educator at a Forest Hills yeshiva was fired after reporting a molestation, according to allegations in a recently-filed lawsuit. According to the educator, she allegedly witnessed a substitute "touching [a] child in an inappropriate manner." The principal Rabbi Ephraim Ben Mordchai refused to watch the footage and accused the educator of lying, according to the filing. (New York Post)
