- In 2022, only one Queens hospital earned an 'A' safety grade, due to the pandemic reversing years of progress in patient safety. According to a national ranking of patient safety in U.S. hospitals released this week by the Leapfrog Group, Jamaica's NYC Health and Hospitals was the only hospital out of eight to receive an 'A.' One other Queens hospital received a 'D,' and the remaining six received 'C's. (Patch)
- A development company wants to build a 23-story residential tower on Vernon Blvd. in Queens. Quadrum Global, an international investment firm, is seeking a zoning variance to rehabilitate the Paragon Paint building at 45-40 Vernon Boulevard and develop a tower behind it. Queens Community Board 2 scheduled a vote for Jun. 2. (Queens Post)
- Police have identified the suspect wanted for killing a woman and wounding another in Ridgewood on Monday morning. 55-year-old Pedro Cintron allegedly shot his 51-year-old girlfriend, Migdalia Ortega, in the head during a domestic dispute while inside her apartment at 66-17 Fresh Pond Rd. He also opened fire on a neighbor who came to help. Cintron fled the scene in a dark blue Nissan Rogue and is wanted by the police. Click the link for photos. (Ridgewood Post)
