- A public elementary school in Queens was forced to close its doors due to a COVID outbreak, becoming the city’s second related closure since school started. Effective yesterday, P.S. 166, The Henry Gradstein School in Astoria, will be all-remote until Monday, Nov. 22. Between Nov. 2 and Nov. 8, three staff members and 19 students at the school tested positive for COVID. No teachers have tested positive since the school year started. (WPIX 11 New York)

- Millions of women left the workforce during the COVID crisis, many doing so due to a lack of reliable, affordable childcare. That's why State Sen. Jessica Ramos (D-Queens) has made universal childcare across New York one of her top priorities. Ramos, who is also a mother of two, envisions the state providing free childcare for those making minimum wage and then instituting a sliding scale for higher earners. (New York Daily News)
- A suspect has been arrested for the fatal 2020 shooting of a 25-year-old Queens man over a parking spot. 36-year-old Hector Crespo was charged with murder and gun possession in the death of Vickram Sewsankar in Long Island City. The victim was reportedly shot and killed in a dispute over a parking spot; police could not confirm a motive. (New York Daily News)
- A Queens man has been convicted of securities and wire fraud conspiracies relating to the foreign exchange market. John Won conspired with co-defendant Tae Hung Kang and others in a scheme to defraud victims, who were largely members of NYC's Korean-American community, into investing in foreign exchange trading accounts and in their company. When sentenced, Won faces a maximum of 20 years in prison. (Department of Justice)
