Power Still Out For Thousands In Queens, Con Ed Says
Thousands of Queens residents had no power as of Monday night after outages plagued the city amid a weekend-long heat wave.
QUEENS, NY — Thousands of Queens residents still had no power Monday after a weekend-long heat wave and a night of severe thunderstorms caused mass outages.
More than 10,000 customers in Queens were in the dark as of 10 p.m. Monday after extreme temperatures this weekend put a strain on the city's aging electrical infrastructure and caused tens of thousands to lose power citywide, according to Con Edison.
The outages hit Jamaica hardest, with more than 7,000 customers affected, ConEd data shows.

But the actual number of people affected is likely higher, since Con Ed tallies the number of customers — not residents — when reporting outages.
Tens of thousands of customers lost power over the weekend as temperatures in New York City spiked to 99 degrees — with a 110 degree heat index value — and Mayor Bill de Blasio called a state of emergency.

De Blasio blasted Con Ed during a press conference Monday, saying he has heard "no answers whatsoever to why this happened and what is being done to ensure it will not happen again," and calling the outages "preventable."
Severe thunderstorms flooded the city Monday and even stopped traffic on the Long Island Expressway for nearly an hour.
