Queens Food Supplier Recalls 76,000 Pounds Of Catfish

WOODSIDE, QUEENS — A Queens-based food supplier is recalling over 76,000 pounds of catfish.

Premium Foods USA, Inc. is in hot water with federal food safety inspectors, who say the Woodside company didn't present the catfish for inspection after importing them into the United States.

The fish products came from Bangladesh and Myanmar, countries that cannot export catfish products to the United States, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

Premium Foods imported the now-recalled catfish between March 26, 2018 and March 8, 2019.

The company then shipped the products to stores in Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Michigan, New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania, USDA officials said.

Inspectors from the USDA's Food Safety and Inspection Service discovered the problem during a routine surveillance of imported products.

The USDA classified the recall as a high health risk, meaning officials believe there is a reasonable chance that eating the fish products will cause serious health consequences or death.

The agency hasn't received any confirmed reports of bad reactions from eating the catfish, but officials said consumers who bought the products should throw them out or return them.

The recalled catfish products include:
