  1. A Queens high school is one of 12 in the United States, and one of two in NYC, teaching about cybersecurity and the military. Students at Thomas A. Edison Career and Technical Education High School are some of the few across the country learning about the complex systems and principles around cybersecurity through the school's Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps, known as JROTC. This September, the school will tie this program into a four-year curriculum, which aims to set students up for careers in cybersecurity as the sector sees a worker shortage. (Brooklyn Daily Eagle)
  2. Two manhole fires caused an explosion in Jamaica on Tuesday morning. The explosion blew the cover off the manhole, buckling the roadway on 149th Street and damaging a car that was parked nearby. No injuries were reported, however, the neighborhood was without power as of Tuesday afternoon. (CBS New York)
  3. A winning lottery ticket totaling $15,000 was sold at a Bayside smoke shop. According to an announcement on Friday, a winning Take 5 ticket was purchased at Bayside Smoke & Lotto Inc, located at Bell Boulevard near 41st Avenue. The ticket was worth $15,201.50 in prize money. (Patch)
