Here are the top three stories today in Queens:
- A motorcyclist died after crashing into a brick wall in Queens on Wednesday morning. 28-year-old Thomas Hardy, of St. Albans, was traveling along Utopia Parkway at a high rate of speed when he lost control of his motorcycle at around 12:40 a.m. and slammed into a brick wall fence. The victim was pronounced deceased at New York-Presbyterian Hospital- Queens; no one else was hurt. (Forest Hills Post)
- After a two-year hiatus, the Queens Pride Parade and Festival will take place on Sunday. Tens of thousands of people are expected to attend the 30th annual parade — one of the oldest and largest LGBTQ celebrations in New York City — in Jackson Heights. Beginning at noon, the parade will make its way down 37th Avenue, starting at 89th Street and finishing at the intersection of 37th Avenue and 75th Street. The festival will take place from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. where 37th Road meets 75th Street. (Queens Post)
- The New York City Department of Education's (DOE) free meal program will run in 85 Queens schools this year. The Summer Meals Program, which runs across all five boroughs until Sept. 2, will be providing free breakfast and lunch meals to students up to the age of 18 beginning on Jun. 28. Registration, identification, or documentation are not required for the kids to receive their free meals.(QNS.com)
