QUEENS — York College in Jamaica will receive more than $2.1 million in federal funding for science programs, Rep. Gregory W. Meeks said Tuesday.
About $1.2 million will go toward funding the geology and environmental science programs, as well as student stipends and equipment. Part of these funds will help launch a mentoring program for new geology majors.
“It’s important for students to be focused on their coursework and not on how they can pay for books or the next meal,” Meeks said.
