  1. A Queensbridge Houses resident achieved her lifelong dream of running in the New York City Marathon. With the lottery system to enter and her struggles with asthma, it seemed impossible — but this year, Ceil Witherspoon finally got to participate with the help of the City Harvest food pantry. Witherspoon, who volunteers for City Harvest, raised $3,500 for the food pantry by running. (QNS.com)

Senator John Liu, Assembly Member David Weprin, and Council Member Barry Grodenchik were among local officials and community members joining Queensborough Community College President Dr. Christine Mangino on Wednesday to distribute donated groceries and fresh turkeys to more than 200 Queensborough students in need. The midday Thanksgiving Food Distribution was part of the College's larger 2021 "Give Thanks, Give Back" annual #CUNYTuesday drive to raise funds, which support the provision and delivery of emergency goods and services to members of the Queensborough community.   3. The Governors Ball is back for 2022! After taking 2020 off due to the pandemic and moving to September in 2021, the annual festival will return to its original timeframe and be held from June 10-12.   4. A trio orchestrated an elaborate "Ocean’s Eleven" plot, Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz said Wednesday. This summer, the three suspects allegedly restrained workers at a West Babylon warehouse and stole property worth several hundred thousand dollars. They were arraigned on a 10-count indictment charging them with burglary in the second degree, four counts of robbery in the first degree, four counts of robbery in the second degree, and conspiracy in the fourth degree.   5. Kew Gardens CSA is partnering with Queens Botanical Garden to bring a composting program and fresh produce to the community. The group is also a member of the Just Food CSA Network, an organization that connects communities and local farms with the resources and support they need to make fresh, locally grown food accessible to all New Yorkers. While dropping off their food scraps, CSA members can pick up produce that is grown and delivered from the Garden of Eve Organic Farm on Long Island. (QNS.com)
