Data shows that in the seven-day period that ended on Saturday, a total of 521 Western Queens residents tested positive for COVID-19 — an 11.4 percent positivity rate, as opposed to the citywide 8.6 percent rate. Within the past 28 days, no Astoria or Long Island City residents have died from the virus. (Patch)
  2. A Queens veteran was inducted into the New York State Veterans Hall of Fame over the weekend. On May 21, State Senator Joe Addabbo inducted Staff Sergeant Catalina Gaviria from Hamilton Beach, who started her military career with the U.S. Marine Corps in 2000 as an administrative clerk. The ceremony took place on Saturday at The Shops at Atlas Park in Glendale. (QNS.com)
