Road Rage Driver Who Shot At Cop Faces Attempted Murder Rap: Queens DA
Alexis Morillo, 40, angrily fired a gunshot at an off-duty NYPD detective on the Long Island Expressway, prosecutors said.

QUEENS, NY — A motorist faces an attempted murder charge after prosecutors said he shot at an off-duty NYPD detective in a fit of road rage in Queens.
Alexis Morillo, 40, of The Bronx, was arraigned Wednesday on a slew of charges that could land him behind bars for up to 25 years, authorities said.
The charges stem from an early Sept. 17 road rage incident along the Long Island Expressway in which Morillo is accused of shooting at a cop, prosecutors said.

"A police detective nearly lost his life in a mindless act of violence," said Melinda Katz, district attorney for Queens, in a statement.
Prosecutors said the off-duty detective drove east near the Cross Island Parkway when he passed Morillo's Mercedes-Benz SUV on the right.

Morillo drove into the middle lane alongside the detective, matching the cop's speed and started to yell at him, authorities said.
The detective then saw a muzzle flash from a bullet that struck his car on the passenger side, prosecutors said.
The cop reported Morillo's SUV's license plate number and followed it until he lost sight near the Horace Harding Expressway, officials said.
Police found the SUV, which was registered to Morillo's girlfriend, ditched in Astoria, prosecutors said. Records showed that Morillo called an Uber from Astoria to his home in The Bronx, authorities said.
Morillo faces a six-count indictment charging him with second-degree attempted murder, first-degree attempted assault, two counts of criminal possession of a weapon, reckless driving and unlawful fleeing from a police officer. He's scheduled to next appear in court Nov. 20.
