- The 38-year-old man who was knocked unconscious after being shoved on an NYC sidewalk has died of injuries. The victim, Jose Luis Figueroa, of Manhattan, got into a conversation with the suspect at the corner of Jamaica Avenue and 132nd Street in Richmond Hill around 8 p.m. Feb. 14 when the suspect shoved him to the ground and robbed him. Figueroa's case has now been ruled a homicide; no arrests have been made at this time. (NBC New York)
- A second arrest was made in connection with last week's hammer attack at the Queens Plaza subway station. According to the Queens District Attorney’s Office, 57-year-old Denise Alston has been accused of using the victim’s credit card just hours after the attack to make a $19 purchase. Alston has been charged with criminal possession of stolen property, petit larceny, identity theft, and more; she could face up to four years in prison if convicted. (Spectrum News NY1)
- Plans for a Spiderman statue in Forest Hills are beginning to take shape, thanks to one resident. Larry Ng, a longtime Forest Hills resident, is trying to rally the community around his plan to erect a statue of the web-slinging super-hero at a public space in the neighborhood. According to the original Marvel comic book series, Parker lived at 20 Ingram Street with his Aunt May and Uncle Ben, however, Ng noted there is no physical recognition of Spiderman in Forest Hills despite the fictional character growing up there.
