SummerStage Queens: George Clinton & Met Opera To Play Venues This Summer

The summer-long festival brings free performances to NYC's parks.

QUEENS, NY — As part of this year's SummerStage concerts, George Clinton & Parliament Funkadelic, the Met Opera and many others will be performing for free in Queens this summer.

New York's biggest free festival brings performances by famed musicians from all genres to parks across the city throughout the summer months. Events will begin on May 17 with a ticketed performance by Gov't Mule and Chris Robinson Brotherhood in Central Park and run through Sept. 13, with more than 20 performances each month, most of which will be free.

The lineup includes venues from all four boroughs, including Brooklyn Bridge Park, Central Park, Crotona Park and Clove Lakes Park.

George Clinton & Parliament Funkadelic will be performing 5 p.m. June 11 at the Flushing Meadows Corona Park to kick off the series of concerts in Queens this summer. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame artist will be joined by the hip-hop group Main Source and DJ Marley Marl. From his Motown days to his P-Funk jams, Clinton released 16 albums and is sure to deliver a memorable performance this summer.

Stars of the Met Opera will be performing some of their favorite works, which will feature soprano So Young Park, tenor Petr Nekoranec, baritone Hyung Yun and pianist Dan Saunders. The performance will take place in Socrates Sculpture Park at 7 p.m. on June 23.

Both events are free and admission is on a first-come, first-served basis.

  • Capone-N-Noreaga with Lyricist Lounge 25th Anniversary Series — Queensbridge Park, 6 p.m. July 16
