  1. A teenage boy was shot in the arm before fleeing into a Queens high school on Wednesday afternoon. The 17-year-old, who is a student at Maspeth High School, was shot in the left arm at 74th Street and Grand Avenue at around 1:40 p.m., according to police. The school was locked down until about 3:15 p.m. and the victim was taken to the hospital with a non-fatal injury. (PIX11 New York News)
  2. On Wednesday morning, a body was found floating in the East River near the Astoria Ferry Terminal. According to NYPD, at around 6:00 a.m., officers rushed to the waterfront after receiving a 911 call of a body floating in the water near Vernon Boulevard and 30th Drive. As of this writing, the victim — a fully clothed, 30-something man — has not been identified. (Patch)
  3. After a two-year wait, a Queens baseball team unable to use their home field received a new pitching mound. The Construction High School team previously hadn't been allowed to play home games, due to their multi-million dollar Astroturf home field having too small of a Little League mound. The league mandates high schoolers need an 18-foot mound; the school's was only 10 feet. For the first time since before the pandemic, Victory Field hosted its first official home game on Monday night. (WABC-TV)
