Things To Do In Queens This Weekend

Get your groove on at a silent disco, party as your favorite 'Stranger Things' character or stuff your face at an ice cream party.

QUEENS, NY -- As the weather forecast creeps into unseasonable warm territory, there's no excuse to stay holed up in your house all weekend.

Take advantage of the balmy weather - temperatures are expected to reach 50 degrees on Saturday - by getting out and explore all Queens has to offer. To help get you started, here's a roundup of some cool events happening throughout the borough this weekend.


Silent Disco Dance Party

Neighborhood: Long Island City

What: Join New York City's largest indoor/outdoor beer garden for a silent disco dance party, where three DJs will spin for your attention. For $10 - or $15 at the door - you'll get a pair of wireless headphones that let you pick which DJ you want to dance to and how loud you want your music to be. Admission for the event -which is open to ages 21 and up - also includes free glow-in-the-dark gear.

Stories Through Music and Song

Neighborhood: Forest Hills

What: This interactive concert for adults and children alike explores the way stories have been told through songs. Teaching artists and pianists present this free hourlong concert - complete with a guest singer - as part of a new series that aims to have fun while preparing kids for what to expect at a real opera.

Where: The Church In the Gardens, 99-50 Ascan Ave.

When: Saturday, Jan. 20, 11 a.m. - noon


Dreams Of Sand

Neighborhood: Flushing

What: Sand artist Borja Gonzales uses only sand to tell the story of two peoples' lives in this nonverbal show accompanied by live music. Call 718-463-7700 to snag your ticket to this workshop/performance for $14.

When: Saturday, Jan. 20, 1 - 3:15 p.m.


'Stranger Things' Costume Party

Neighborhood: Sunnyside

What: Shake off your winter blues by dressing as your favorite 'Stranger Things' character for Claret Wine Bar's first ever costume party in honor of the hit Netflix series. There will be themed cocktails, prizes for the best costumes and '80s music blasting all night long. Admission is free - so long as you come in character.

Where: Claret Wine Bar, 4602 Skillman Ave.

When: Saturday, Jan. 20, 8 p.m. - 2 a.m.


Ice Cream Extravaganza

Neighborhood: Ridgewood

What: Just in time for this weekend's wave of warm weather, the YMCA is bringing back a small piece of summer for this Family Fun Day. The Ice Cream Extravaganza will feature a frozen yogurt bar alongside ice cream-themed activities including games of 'Pin the Cherry On the Ice Cream Cone,' ice cream collage crafting and an ice cream photo booth. The best part? It's all free!

When: Sunday, Jan. 21, 1-3 p.m.
