QUEENS, NY — Forget the Rockefeller tree — one special group of New York City "holiday tourists" opted for a yuletide dip in Flushing Bay.

Yes, that's right — dolphins have been sighted in the water off Queens.

NYPD harbor officers spotted a pod of about six dolphins Sunday while patrolling Flushing Bay, authorities said.

Dolphin sightings in the East River are rare, but not unheard of. Back in 2013, the New York Times and other outlets reported on at least one wayward cetacean.

This is not the first dolphin sighting this year. In March, someone spotted three dolphins in a pod from Greenpoint's WNYC Transmitter Park.

Bottlenose dolphins, common dolphins, pilot whales and Risso's dolphins can often be seen off the south shore of Long Island, according to New York's Department of Environmental Conservation.
