  1. A 16-year-old was stabbed by a group of violent muggers in Queens. According to police, the teen was riding with two male passengers at the corner of 37th Avenue and 82nd Street in Elmhurst around 3:45 p.m. on Mar. 29, when the crew of strangers approached and demanded his ride. Footage released late Wednesday showed the crew punching and kicking the teen and his passengers before stabbing the teen once in the back. The victim was listed in stable condition at Elmhurst Hospital and it is unclear whether the passengers were hospitalized. (New York Post)
  2. LaGuardia Community College raised $15 million to support students whose studies were impacted by COVID-19. The money comes from a fundraising campaign the college launched last year with a goal of bringing in $10 million, which was needed to unlock a $5 million gift from an anonymous donor. According to the college, students who receive the school's aid are three times more likely to graduate. (Queens Post)
  3. A Forest Hills resident believes it’s time that the city officially recognizes Juneteenth as a holiday. Irene Raevsky, an attorney and manager for the Office of Administrative Trials and Hearings, noticed that the holiday — which was made a public holiday by Mayor de Blasio in 2021 — was not on the city’s calendar when her Black colleagues turned to her with questions about whether they would celebrate it this summer. “It’s perplexing that a federal holiday that is recognized by the state of New York is not recognized by the city,” Raevsky said.
