Here are the top stories today in Queens:

  1. Activists and politicians are opposing the plan to replace the women's jail on Rikers Island with one in Kew Garden. The people opposed to the shift say that it would be more humane to move the women to a facility in Harlem. The Women's Center for Justice at the Lincoln Correctional Facility is a minimum-security facility that was closed in 2019 due to a shrinking prison population. 2. An elderly woman is in critical condition after a car crash on Saturday. Police say the 67-year-old woman was crossing 103rd Avenue in Jamaica around 11:20 p.m. A person driving a Nissan Maxima sedan hit the woman while she was in the crosswalk. The 22-year-old driver remained at the scene while the woman was rushed to the hospital. Police have not made any arrests. (AMNY)
  3. A group of people was hospitalized after a house party shooting in Queens. According to officers, fourteen shots were fired by police officers after reports that four men approached the home and opened fire. Reportedly, there were 75-100 people in the home. It is unclear as of Sunday afternoon which injuries were caused by the police and which were caused by the four gunmen. (NBC New York)
